british designer, lee broom returns to brera with observatory, the first in a three phase launch throughout the year. the collection of celestial lighting; eclipse, orion, aurora and tidal – utilize led technology.

the chosen focus of mindcraft18 is on the essence of the work with design and craft. in this year’s exhibition, the objects on display take centre stage, with an emphasis on the hands-on engagement with the material and the visual, aesthetic and sensuous qualities of the objects.

isola design district is a territorial marketing project created by blank, a young milan-based creative agency, with the aim to give visibility to emerging international designers and local artisans, within one of the most lively neighborhoods of milan: isola.

emerging in response to the urgent global issue of waste, really upcycles end-of-life textiles into new materials. this year, really and kvadrat have invited raw-edges design studio, front, benjamin hubert | layer, christien meindertsma, jo nagasaka, claesson koivisto rune and jonathan olivares to create projects with solid textile board and acoustic textile felt. curators are jane withers and njusja de gier.

moooi through the eyes of interior design practice megan grehl and concrete architectural associates welcome you into their worlds, each reflecting their designers’ own unique philosophy and aesthetics. two completely different interiors in which moooi products are presented in surprising new ways.

foscarini lamps reverse room is the installation created by the artist and architect james wines, together with his daughter susan wines, for milan design week 2018 at foscarini spazio brera. in a room with dark walls, upside-down and obliquely tilted, furnished by monochrome tables and chairs, the table lamps peer down from the ceiling, while the hanging fixtures sprout from the floor with the aim of challenging our perception of spaces and our responses to environmental stimuli and conventions.

the salone’s city-based project living nature. la natura dell’abitare developed with the carlo ratti associati (cra) international design and innovation studio, will be in piazza del duomo, in front of palazzo reale. with this event, the salone del mobile is keen to make its contribution to the re-greening of the city, albeit temporary.

snarkitecture worked with caesarstone to create conceptual takes on the kitchen island in an immersive installation at palazzo dell'ufficio elettorale.

hermès will present its latest home textiles, furniture, furnishing fabrics and wallpaper collection at the museo della permanente, in a space designed by charlotte macaux perelman, deputy artistic director for hermès maison, with the curator and publisher alexis fabry.

milan design market is a project created by blank, a creative agency based in milan. it's a space dedicated to emerging designers and brands, who can exhibit and sell their creations, but also network and develop new business opportunities during milan design week. 2018 is the third edition of milan design market during milan design week. also this year will be one of the main events of isola design district and will be organized within the beautiful loft of 400 sqm.

during this year’s milan design week, vitra will supplement its exhibition stand at the salone del mobile furniture fair with a large installation "typecasting. an assembly of iconic, forgotten and new vitra characters" in the former sports arena la pelota. the exhibition is curated by the designer robert stadler.

during the salone, to anticipate the legacy exhibition, sara ricciardi will reveal something of the magic and beauty of schloss hollenegg. the italian designer has captured details of the castle, intertwining them with its rich history to create a playful and interactive show. arcadia, the mythical land where man finds tranquillity and peace, outside the realm of civilization, will explore the importance of heritage, in personal and collective terms, looking both at the past and at the future.

rare and often fallen in disuse materials like alabaster, lustre painted ceramics, rust printing, basket weaving, soapstone, tombolo, scagliola and bucchero take the centre stage again, along with paper, brass, glass, bronze and wood.

corallo brings on stage a suggestive screening room on rails, an unexpected and evocative place, an authentic traveling salon inside a historic tram from 1928, reinvented in a contemporary way by cristina celestino and italian textile brand rubelli. the project is inspired by the theme of the journey, as an experience with dream and surreal overtones, that the designer carries within a d’antan cinema set up.
